Lanten Artisan Residency & Demonstration

ABOUT THEIR RESIDENCY –

Our Lanten artisans are from Nam Dee Village in Luang Namtha Province, northern Laos. TAEC has been working with them for the past 18 months with the support of the New Zealand – Lao Tourism Support Project, to help them develop more market-oriented products, increase their sales, and generate more income for the women of their community.

The artisans will be working closely with TAEC’s handicraft development team on the museum patio and visitors are welcome to watch and ask questions about the crafts they are creating – highlighting their organic cotton, natural plant dyes, and their meticulous traditional embroidery. A truly unique experience!

The group will also be getting sales experience at the famed Luang Prabang Night Market — selling products from their village which they hope they can also do at the expanding Luang Namtha Night Market. Please visit their booth in the Luang Prabang Night Market near Vat Mai (14-16 November) for more of their amazing crafts!
