Free Talk | The Ethics of Exhibiting Music in Laos

This talk will approach two important issues encountered during the creation of a museum exhibition: the ethical questions of collecting objects and the importance of repatriating the collected recordings, videos, and information back to the visited communities.

Through the example of TAEC’s music exhibition “Voices of the Wind: Traditional Instruments in Laos”, ethnomusicologist and curator Dr. Marie-Pierre Lissoir will approach key issues that are little discussed but are so important in a museum context as well as for any private collector or traveller visiting local villages.
