ABOUT

The Tai Lue belong to the Tai linguistic family, which includes the Lao and Tai Dam peoples.. The origin of the Tai Lue differs from the Lao and Tai Dam, tracing back to Sipsong Panna or present-day southern Yunnan Province, China.  Having adopted Theravada Buddhism in the 14th century, Tai Lue villages are easily recognized by their ubiquitous wooden temples, often decorated with mirrors and paintings.  The majority of Tai Lue men become monks for a period of their life.

Tai Lue women are most known as expert weavers, particularly of cotton which they cultivate locally. Our Tai Lue products include scarves, home textiles (table runners, tea towels, comfy cushion covers, and rugs) and accessories and gifts (scarves, elephant dolls, and ornaments). The Tai Lue use their skill with cotton to make a wide range of beautiful handcrafted products.
