Kriang (Nge) Village Scene Runner
$55.00
We absolutely adore this unique village scene textile hand-dyed and handwoven by our Kriang (Nge) friends and artisans in the south. The Kriang are known for their earthy natural dyes and artistic weaving on backstrap looms, producing textiles that feature animal, human, and scenes from their everyday lives. They are a small and relatively unknown ethnic group living primarily in Sekong Province, and their language is related to that of the Alak and Katu.
Did you know the foot-braced backstrap loom is used mainly by the Austroasiatic groups of Laos, whereas the Tai groups use free-standing frame looms? Watch Ms. Phet weave on her foot-braced loom during an artisan residency at TAEC.
Note: There may be slight colour variations with natural dyes.
