SENG

OMA TRADITIONAL HEADWRAP

$500

This piece was made circa 1979, when the maker, Ms. Seng, was around 40 years old, as a gift for a future daughter-in-law. She passed away before she could do this, but her son did give it to his wife, Ms. Bouakham, about 15 years after his mother passed away. It consists of the handspun, handwoven, indigo-dyed cotton base, and appliqued and stitched tsawzah stripes. Several of these applique pieces are made of handspun, locally dyed cotton as well — indicating its age. It also features the hahphahlahphyu (frog’s hand) motifs, and unusual clusters of the hahjoe khoesi lahsi (muddy chicken foot) motif.

LENGTH: 322 cm x WIDTH: 23 cm
