why visit taec?

TAEC is where you go to learn about the country and its people.

TAEC is not just a museum, it is a lively and interactive space that offers visitors an insight into the uniquely diverse cultures that exist in Laos. Did you know there are 50 distinct ethic groups? Did you know that textile making is a way of life and not just for tourists and souvenirs? You will discover many things you didn’t know about the country and its people during your visit at TAEC.

TAEC is small but rich with information and activities. Plan for a one hour visit.

Your time is precious and there are many exciting things to experience in this beautiful UNESCO heritage town. The average visitor spends 45 minutes to 1.5 hours in the Museum. In addition to the exhibits, we also regularly host free talks and handicraft activities so check our event page before you arrive. Go green and view our pocket brochure here

Be sure to visit us early in your holiday so you can take advantage of the incredible knowledge you’ll gain while you travel further afield in Laos.

TAEC runs a fair trade Museum Shop & TAEC Boutique in town.

We work directly with artisan communities across 20 different ethnic groups, many from lesser-known groups around the country. We stock only high quality, locally produced, handmade textiles and handicrafts. Also, 50% of each sale in the Museum Shop and TAEC Boutique goes directly back to over 600 artisans and their families.

TAEC is located in the centre of town.

Located just a few minutes walk from the main intersection (Post Office) and next to Dara Market. The Centre sits atop a small hill in a traditional village with lovely views and afternoon breezes.

Wonderful and informative! A must visit if you want to try and understand the complicated ethnic groups in Laos.

This is a must see in LPB. Great exhibits about local tribes, and a nice shop that sells fair trade textiles and other souvenirs. A great place to support and a good learning experience.

This centre gives a simple, but beautiful overview of the different minority groups in Laos. The information panels provide detailed information to support the stunning artefacts on display. The new exhibition on music is gorgeous as well. The shop has a large range of beautiful, reasonably priced items.
